Football CAN 2010 - Two of the four stadiums hosting the 2010 African Cup of Nations scheduled for 10 to 31 January next year in Angola have been opened in the provinces of Luanda and Benguela.
The 50,000-seater 11 de Novembro Stadium in Luanda was opened on Sunday evening by President José Eduardo dos Santos while 35,000-seater Ombaka Stadium was ope n ed on Monday in Benguela by Prime minister Antonio Paulo Kassoma.
The 11 de Novembro stadium will host matches in Group A comprising Angola, Malawi, Algeria, Mali as well as the opening and final matches.
The infrastructure includes a football pitch, an athletics track, one lecture and anti-doping room, bars, restaurants, health posts and a police station.
Other facilities include four VIP areas, 40 press cabins, one VIP stand and 11 emergency exits.
The Ombaka Stadium will host matches of Group C comprising Egypt, Mozambique, Nigeria and Benin.
It has a football pitch 68m wide and 105m long, as well as one car park for 3,365 vehicles and 537 buses.
Other facilities include VIP and press rooms, shops, security guard posts, fire service and one infirmary.
The other two stadiums hosting the tournament will be opened on Tuesday and Wednesday in the cities of Lubango in the south and Cabinda in the north.
